Six Directions of the Lord's Supper
25 August 2006
Here’s a late post on last week’s sermon by the Supreme Jedi Master Soo-Inn, interestingly titled “Six Directions of the Lord’s Supper”, with the passage from 1 Cor. 11:17-34. No, it’s not self-help material (doesn’t it sound like one?), nothing like Covey or Kiyosaki. To me, there was nothing better than a refreshing look at the Lord’s Supper— freshly-toasted bread and a sparkling cup of wine.
Here’s his concised notes given last weekend.
- Looking back to what Christ has accomplished on the Cross (vv. 23-25)
- Looking forward to the day when God’s renewal programmed will be completed and we will see Christ face to face (v. 26)
- Looking around and realizing afresh we are one family in Christ (vv. 17-22)
- Looking inward to see if our lives are lived in accordance to the testimony of the Lord’s Supper (vv. 17-32)
- Looking outward with fresh concern for those not yet at the table (v. 36 cf. Luke 14:15-24)
- Looking upward and recognising the presence of the living Christ at the Lord’s Table
It’s not anything new or coined-up, but rather something he took from Michael Green. Tried Google-ing it up but didn’t quite find anything much about it, or even the original book itself (maybe I do not know the title). Nevertheless, it was a fresh perspective to look at the Eucharist, a good break from what we normally would do – get on with #1, #4 then #2, while not attempting to re-examine other perspectives.
While I was at it, I stumbled upon 6 biblical foundations for understanding the Lord’s Supper. A good theological perspective worth a look.

Hey Bro! Thanks for the summary on wat went on back home…
It IS a bit strange that this topic of Lord’s Supper was somehow laid in front of me recently,,, ie Soo Inn’s sermon, I was there at Piper’s sermon and then Steven Sim’s poem here hahaha
