All Is Well in Vienna
4 October 2007
I have arrived safely, thank you for all your concern, prayers and well wishes =). All is well over here in Vienna. In the midst of settling down, I’m still running errands like opening a bank account, getting a semester pass and etc.
Since there’s no class in the first week, so I had to opportunity to lepak around and catch the glimpse of the city. It’s full of majestic buildings and beautiful parks. It really excites me to know that Mozart, Strauss and many other great composers strolled the same parks and streets as me! Well, I guess John will be doubly excited since Mozart and Mahler are one of his so-called idols.
Within walking distance from my hostel, I can find the Rathaus (townhall), the Parliament building, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, and many more. On top of that, Vienna University of Technology (Technische Universität Wien in German) is located in the center of town, which is around 15 – 20 minutes walk away.
Here’s a sneak preview of the photos I’ve taken, will upload the complete set into picasa soon.

This is the famous Vienna Townhall. If you can’t afford the New Jahr concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the townhall is offering the New Year concert for free!

Votivkirche, it mean Votiv Church i supposed =p

Belvedere Garden, simply charming.
Vienna is bursting with classical music concerts, operas, theater plays, choirs and dance performances. Here’s a poster of Mozart concert, running almost everyday! Cheapest ticket is 39€.

Volks garden.

This is my first meal in Vienna. Frankfurter. Noticed that their food is very very similar to German. All bread and not a single grain of rice. Well, fine with me….since i am not a big fan of rice!

Was strolling around Vienna and saw this interesting restaurant “Mr. Lee”. It sells Asian food, including Chinese, Malay, Thai Tomyam, Japanese sushi, so I can’t really make out whether the owner is from China, Malaysia, Singapore or Taiwan. I wonder whether Ms. Lee here gets any special offer for eating here. =p
