TU ball

What happens when girls are dressed up in front of floor-to-ceiling mirrors? They can entertain themselves for hours there!

It was an exciting and a fun night for us, not just all the dressing up but also this is our first time attending a ball, at least for me! The ball was held in Vienna Hofburg-Imperial Palace….was sooooo grand. We all practically felt like princesses. Here’s some background info about the TU Ball….

The “Ball der Technik” is the Ball in Vienna with the oldest tradition. It dates back to the so called “Technikerkränzchen”, which started since 1815, the year when the “Polytechnisches Institut” (today: Vienna University of Technology) was founded by the emperor Franz I. Among many famous students also the Strauß brothers Johann und Joseph studied at the “Polytechnisches Institut”, before they started their world carreer as musicians and composers. They dedicated numerous Polkas and Walzes to their fellow students cit. Den Herren Studenten der Technik zugeeignet…..more info here

This is how my ball gown looks like….

Prerana and i were there early, so the hall still looks empty. Behind me is where the TU orchestra going to sit.

“Each traditional Ball starts with an opening ceremony whose original idea was the introduction of the “Debütanten”, where young ladies and gentlemen are introduced into their first big society event.” Today, the same tradition is still maintained, and the opening dance is performed by volunteered students.

This is how packed the hall became when the waltzing starts.

I felt like a princess!!!

Did you know that balls usually ends in the wee hours of the morning, about 5am. No wonder when Cinderella left the ball at 12am, it was considered early!! At midnight, probably that when the party is starting and people starting to get into the mood of waltzing, after some rounds of warm-up. But prerana and I left at around 1.30am.

I just realized that I have not blogged about my university. Well, probably in the next post! =)

Terri Hatcher was at the Opernball

Just found out that on the same night of TU ball, Terri Hatcher was at the Opernball (just 10 minutes walk away)!!! And she appeared in a golden dress too, with almost the same design as mine!!! Well, of course mine pales in comparison to hers. Who dares to compare to those sexy and stunning housewives from Wisteria Lane??

Opernball is “the” social event in Vienna, it is held annually in the Staatoper (state opera house). Last year, Paris Hilton was here for the Opernball 2007.
Here are some news about the Opernball….

Nice dress, dearie! :-) Is the handbag Valentine’s also?
Waltzing is almost unheard of back here, not a culture here. Also don’t think many know what a polka is, hehe.

Yeah i agree that dancing in general is not in our culture. Perhaps we can incorporate waltzing in special occasions, like in weddings. I think it will be great! =)

Mei Sin, you look beautiful! Yeah, I agree that we should incorporate waltzing in weddings. I really like the western idea of the father dancing with his daughter at her wedding and then passing her on to the groom. Maybe you and John can be the first to start this back in Malaysia! =)

I second Sarah on that. Mei & John should initiate this . I don’t know about John but Mei is a wonderful dancer and a teacher as well.:P

Thanks Sarah, I’m trying hard to persuade john to do that =p. You know what we can do, we can all dress up and dance waltz (that includes training up the guys too) whenever there’s such an occasion. Ohh…it’s going to be so exciting =D.

Hahaha…Prerana dear, thanks for your complement that says I look like Catherine Zeta-Jones!! I am still not a single bit convinced. You should start a blog too…that way, after we graduate, I could still keep up with your latest happenings.
