Shopping in Verona

Last saturday, my friends and I paid a visit to Verona, the home of Remeo and Juliet. Before this, I though Remeo and Juliet were just characters in William Shakespear’s famous play -> “Romeo and Juliet”. Little did I know that they actually exist, in the 14th century in Verona!

Photos from left:
1. The arena – located outside the city walls, is a Roman amphitheatre built in the first half of the first century A.D.
2. The winged lion of St. Mark, it symbolizes Venetian rule until 1797.
3. The famous Juliet’s balcony.

Apart from sighseeing, we went to Verona with a purpose -> shopping. According to some, apparels in Verona are cheaper than in Bolzano. As we southern Asians have never experienced winter before, we are all so unprepared to the harsh cold weather that lies ahead. So there we are, buying winter clothings.

We had the privilege of having a local tour guide, Huili from China, a friend of Yixian’s, who is currenty studying in the University of Verona. She brought us to all the famous attractions of the town….
1. The Arena
2. Juliet’s house
3. Piazza Bra
4. Palazzo del Comune
5. Piazza Dei Signori
6. Porta Borsari
7. Juliet’s tomb

This city is perfect for a love story, with its middle age ambient, such as Romeo and Juliet’s. Seeing Juliet’s balcony reminded me of Shakespear’s play….it was probably under this balcony where Remeo said these words to Juliet:

“But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?
It is the East, and Juliet is the sun!
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
who is already sick and pale with grief
That thou her maid art far more fair than she.”

*************************************************************

Was the trip fruitful? Well, i would say yes…...took a lot of pictures and bought a winter coat and a few wool sweaters. Mission accomplished!!
